Endoscopy Community Programme (ECP)
Colorectal cancer is the second and third most common cancer in males and females respectively in Malaysia. Despite this, there remains a lack of awareness of the signs and symptoms of colon cancer, delaying presentation and treatment. Public awareness of the rising incidence of colorectal cancer and the participation rates for screening are low.
Majority of colorectal cancer can be prevented with early detection by doing a proper endoscopy screening. From screening, precancerous polyps can be detected and removed before they turn into cancer. However, not all patients can bear the cost of an endoscopy screening. In order to reduce patients’ financial burden and encourage the high risk group to go for endoscopy screening, Beacon Hospital has launched an Endoscopy Community Programme (ECP) in May 2017 to provide endoscopy screening to general public at more than 50% subsidised rate. This programme is in collaboration with the NGO of Colorectal Cancer Survivorship Society Malaysia (CORUM). More than 200 patients benefited from this programme. The programme has ended in 30 July 2017.
