Secondhand Smokers Are at Higher Risk of Lung Cancer

Dr. Tho Lye Mun, a Clinical Oncologist at Beacon Hospital, states that lung cancer treatment depends on the genetic analysis of the tumor or cancerous growth.

Available treatments include immunotherapy, surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and targeted therapy.

“Targeted therapy blocks key molecules that help cancer cells grow and spread. It is often used for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC),” he added.

According to Dr Lye Mun, new treatments such as targeted therapy have increased the survival rate for stage four cancer from six months to five years.

“Another breakthrough is immunotherapy, which boosts the immune system to identify and fight cancer cells,” he said.
