Linear accelerator-based stereotactic radiosurgery is associated with a lower incidence of radionecrosis (after effects of radiation therapy) compared with Gamma Knife for treatment of multiple brain metastases (Source: PubMed.gov).

Brain metastases occur when cancer cells spread from their original site (eg. lung, breast, colon, kidney, melanoma) to the brain. Brain metastases, or secondary brain tumors, can occur in 10 to 30 percent of adults with cancer.
