Screening Procedures

What This Gut Screening Package Covers

The package focuses on examining both the lower and upper digestive tract using endoscopic procedures performed by trained medical professionals.

COLONOSCOPY

A Preventive Screening For Colorectal Cancer
A colonoscopy is a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure used to examine the entire large intestine, including the rectum.

During the procedure, a thin, flexible tube (colonoscope) equipped with a light and high-definition camera is gently inserted through the anus and advanced through the colon. This allows doctors to directly visualise the intestinal lining, detect abnormalities such as polyps or early cancer, and perform interventions like biopsy or polyp removal during the same procedure.

Colonoscopy remains the gold standard for colorectal cancer screening and prevention, as it can both detect and treat precancerous lesions early.

GASTROSCOPY

OESOPHAGOGASTRODUODENOSCOPY, OGDS
Gastroscopy, also known as OGDS or upper endoscopy, is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure used to examine the upper digestive tract.

This includes the throat (pharynx), oesophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine. A thin, flexible endoscope is inserted through the mouth and carefully guided down the digestive tract.

The procedure enables doctors to identify conditions such as inflammation, ulcers, bleeding, or tumours, and to perform biopsies when necessary.

ENDOSCOPY TECHNOLOGY

Both procedures utilise an endoscope fitted with a high-resolution camera and light source, allowing real-time visualisation of the digestive tract. Images and videos can be recorded to support accurate diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment planning. Modern endoscopic systems (2026) also incorporate enhanced imaging technologies that improve the detection of early-stage disease and subtle abnormalities.

Why Gut Screening Matters?

Colorectal cancer remains one of the most common cancers in Malaysia. According to more recent data from the Malaysian National Cancer Registry and Ministry of Health reports, it is among the top three cancers affecting both men and women, accounting for approximately 10–13% of all cancer cases. It is the most common cancer among men and the second most common among women in the country.
