Eye screening is one of the most significant annual health screenings we need to undertake. 80% of all cases of blindness are avoidable with proper prevention and treatments (WHO). It is important to have regular eye screening because vision problems can be treated most successfully if they are detected early.

Some of the conditions that could be detected during the Eye Screening test are as below;

DIABETIC RETINAL DISEASES

It is recommended that individuals with diabetes undergo annual retinal examinations to detect any diabetic retinal diseases. Diabetes has the potential to harm the blood vessels in the retina, which can result in permanent vision loss. Additionally, inadequately controlled diabetes can contribute to the development of cataracts at an earlier stage.

GLAUCOMA

Glaucoma is a condition that can cause irreversible damage to the optic nerve, ultimately resulting in blindness if not treated. It is particularly prevalent among the elderly population and individuals with a family history of the disease. Given that early-stage glaucoma often does not present any noticeable symptoms, regular eye screenings are crucial to detect and address the condition promptly.

MYOPIA

Digital devices used for both work and leisure contribute to the occurrence of dry eyes and eye fatigue, resulting in symptoms such as redness, pain, blurred vision, and sensitivity to light. Additionally, excessive exposure to digital screens coupled with insufficient exposure to natural sunlight has been identified as one of the underlying causes of the myopia epidemic among children.

OTHER UNDERLYING HEALTH PROBLEMS

High blood pressure and high cholesterol may manifest in the eye. Regular eye testing may also detect eye complications from these two conditions.
