Petaling Jaya, 24 September, 2025 – Beacon Hospital is proud to introduce the Falls Prevention Programme, a holistic initiative dedicated to helping older adults stay active, independent, and safe, while fostering greater confidence and quality of life in the community.
Falls are a significant public health concern in Malaysia, with the National Health & Morbidity Survey 2018 reporting that approximately 14.1% of adults aged 60 and above experience falls annually. These incidents can result in severe injuries such as fractures and head trauma, leading to disability and loss of independence among seniors.
“At Beacon Hospital we recognise the challenges that accompany ageing. The decline in muscle strength, gait stability, flexibility, and overall health will significantly increase the risk of falls,” said Dr. Toh Zeng Yan, Consultant Geriatrician. “Our Falls Prevention Programme is designed to comprehensively assess and address these risks, helping our older adults maintain mobility, confidence, and quality of life.”
The programme benefits:
Beacon Hospital’s multidisciplinary team provides holistic care through comprehensive assessments integrating medical history, physical examinations, medication review, and validated fall risk evaluations. The programme offers onsite diagnostics such as blood tests, bone density scans (DXA), muscle mass analysis (BIA), vision, and hearing assessments, ECGs, and more. You also receive allied health support through consultations with dietitians’ assessments and the rehabilitation team who will focus on optimising your nutrition to support muscle and bone health alongside a personalised rehabilitation plan designed to enhance mobility and reduce fall risk.
