Beacon Hospital Provides Medical Aid to Flood-Affected Communities in Aceh

In response to the devastating floods that struck North Sumatra, West Sumatra and Aceh, resulting in the loss of over 1,170 lives (Source: Al Jazeera, 2026), Beacon Hospital deployed a dedicated medical relief team to Indonesia to provide urgent healthcare assistance to affected communities.

From 8 to 11 January 2026, Beacon Hospital carried out an on-ground humanitarian medical mission focused on delivering free medical check-ups, health assessments and essential medication to flood-affected populations, where access to healthcare services had been severely disrupted.

The mission was led by Dato’ Dr Mohamed Ibrahim A Wahid, together with a committed team comprising Dr Raja Ahmad Shaharul, medical officers, nurses and supporting staff. United by a shared purpose, the team travelled to disaster-hit locations to deliver immediate medical assistance and temporary relief during a critical recovery period.

With healthcare infrastructure significantly impacted by the floods, Beacon Hospital’s presence on the ground helped bridge urgent gaps in medical access, ensuring affected individuals received timely medical evaluation and treatment.

Medical check-ups and health assessments were conducted across multiple locations, including:

• Kuala Simpang, Aceh Tamiang
  – Gampong Sukajadi
  – Kampung Dalam
  – Kota Lintang Bawah
• Tangkahan Durian, Pangkalan Berandan, Langkat

Across these areas, the medical team attended to patients of all ages, addressing acute conditions, chronic illnesses disrupted by the floods and general health concerns arising from prolonged exposure to unsanitary conditions.
