Webinar: Breast Lump, To Panic Or Not To Panic?

Home / Webinar: Breast Lump, To Panic Or Not To Panic?
17/04/2020

You are conducting your regular monthly Breast Self-Check Examination, and suddenly you discover that there is a slight lump in your breast. Now you are thinking to yourself, should I be panicking now? Don’t start panicking yet, not all breast lumps are cancerous.

In fact, according to Malaysian National Cancer Registry Report (2007-2011), the odds of men and women in Malaysia to develop cancer is one out of ten and one out of nine respectively. Not just that, if you have been going through regular mammograms, and if those mammograms have been negative, the chances of your lump being non-cancerous are even higher.

However, National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) indicates that 43 percent of breast cancer cases in our country are only discovered when in the late stages, namely the third and fourth stages. Hence, early detection of breast cancer is vital in enhancing positive results from treatments.

The size of the detected tumour determines which cancer stage a patient is at. By discovering breast lumps early, it will enable the doctors to detect the cancer at its early stages, possibly even at stage 0, where the cancer has not spread beyond where it was found to other parts of the breast or other organs. Doctors will be able to start treatments early so that patients are able to get the best possible outcome from the treatments. The five-year survival rate declines quickly as breast cancer proceeds to the next stage (National Cancer Institute, 2009 – 2015).

We, at Beacon Hospital recognise this importance in understanding breast lumps. Hence, we will be hosting Zoom webinar sessions with the topic “Breast Lump, To Panic or NOT to Panic?”. There will be 3 different sessions, and each session will be hosted in Bahasa Melayu, English and Mandarin respectively. All registered participants are entitled to a *HEALTH SCREENING E-VOUCHER WORTH RM450.
