Why Lung Cancer Screening Matters?

Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in Malaysia. Many cases are diagnosed at a later stage, when treatment may become more complex and outcomes are generally less favourable.
One of the challenges with lung cancer is that it may not cause obvious symptoms in its early stages. For individuals who are at higher risks, lung screening with Low-Dose CT may help identify lung changes earlier and support timely follow-up when needed.

Because lung cancer may not show symptoms in its early stages

Lung cancer can develop silently, and some people may not experience symptoms until the condition has progressed. A Low-Dose CT scan, also known as LDCT, is a lung screening test that uses a lower dose of radiation to produce detailed images of the lungs.

What is a Low-Dose CT scan?

A Low-Dose CT scan, or LDCT scan, is a type of CT scan that uses a lower dose of radiation to create detailed images of the lungs. It is commonly used as a screening test for individuals who may a higher risk of lung cancer.
The scan is fast, non-invasive, and does not require fasting or contrast injection.
LDCT Screening

Benefits of LDCT Screening

LDCT screening may be suitable for individuals who are at higher risk of lung cancer, including:
  • Current or former smokers aged 45 to 75 years
  • Individuals with a smoking history of 20 packs-years or more
  • Those who have quit smoking within the past 15 years
  • Individuals with a strong family history of lung cancer
People with prolonged exposure to second-hand smoke or other lung cancer risk factors
If you are unsure whether LDCT screening is suitable for you, speak to your healthcare provider or contact us for further guidance.

What Does 20 Pack-Years Mean?

A 20 pack-year smoking history may mean:
  • Smoking 1 pack per day for 20 years
  • Smoking 2 packs per day for 10 years
  • Smoking half a pack per day 40 years
This helps estimate a person's smoking exposure over time.

What to Expect During Your LDCT Scan?

Before the scan, our team will guide you through the registration and preparation process. No fasting is required because the LDCT scan does not use contrast.
The full process usually takes around 15 to 30 minutes, including preparation and the scan itself. After the scan, the images will be reviewed by a radiologist.
Your LDCT report will be ready within 7 working days from the screening date.

After your LDCT Scan

Your scan will be reviewed by a radiologist. If the report shows any findings that require further assessment, you may be advised to arrange a follow-up consultation with a doctor.
Follow-up consultations, additional tests, medications, procedures, or further investigations are not included in this promotion and will be charged separately if required.
