A humanitarian medical mission involving the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and an international medical team from Beacon Hospital Malaysia was recently conducted in Aceh Tenggara, Indonesia. The initiative aimed to improve access to healthcare services, particularly in underserved and remote communities.
Throughout the programme, free medical services were provided at Puskesmas Jamur Lak-Lak in Ketambe. Residents from surrounding villages received general health screenings, medical consultations, treatment, and basic health education. The initiative also addressed a range of health conditions, from common illnesses to cases requiring further medical attention.
The presence of international doctors contributed not only to patient care but also to knowledge-sharing with local healthcare professionals, supporting long-term capacity building within the region.
In addition to on-ground medical services, the Beacon Hospital team provided medication support to RSUD H. Sahudin in Kutacane to assist in the management of chronic conditions, including cancer care. This contribution is expected to enhance the hospitalโs ability to deliver ongoing treatment to patients.
The mission also included engagement with the Aceh Tenggara local government, highlighting opportunities for continued collaboration in strengthening healthcare services, particularly in post-disaster recovery and specialised care such as oncology.
The programme concluded with a closing ceremony attended by healthcare personnel, volunteers, and local residents. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to improve healthcare accessibility while fostering international cooperation and community resilience.
