Cataract is a condition caused by the clouding of the eye’s natural lens, which in turn affects vision. It is also the leading cause of blindness worldwide. While cataracts are commonly associated with the natural ageing process, certain individuals are at higher risk, including those who smoke, have diabetes, on long-term steroid medications, or experience prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays without proper eye protection.

Although there is no known way to completely prevent cataracts, managing risk factors and undergoing regular eye check-ups can help. Regular screenings allow early detection, which can make treatment more effective.
In conjunction with Cataract Awareness Month, Beacon Hospital is pleased to offer a free cataract screening. Don’t miss this opportunity if you are aged 40 to 70.
