Free Cataract Surgery Programme 2025

Restoring Vision, Reviving Hope

Cataract is one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide. It occurs when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, leading to progressive vision loss. Some common symptoms of cataract include:

  • Blurry or cloudy vision
  • Double vision
  • Difficulty seeing at night
  • Colours appearing faded or yellowish

Cataracts can affect anyone, but they are more common after the age of 40. If left untreated, they can worsen over time and significantly impact your quality of life.

How to treat cataracts?

Currently, surgery is the only effective treatment to remove cataracts and restore clear vision. You may need cataract surgery if you’re experiencing vision problems that interfere with daily activities like reading, using your phone, or driving at night.

One of the most commonly used techniques is called phacoemulsification — a safe, minimally invasive, and same-day procedure performed by our experienced Ophthalmologists.

How phacoemulsification works?

  1. Local anaesthesia is administered to numb the eye, ensuring a painless experience.
  2. A tiny incision is made in the cornea (the clear front part of the eye).
  3. An ultrasound probe is inserted to break the cloudy lens into small fragments, which are then gently suctioned out.
  4. A clear, artificial intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted to replace the natural lens — permanently restoring your vision.

When to consider cataract surgery?

You should consider cataract screening or surgery if you:

Struggle to see clearly

Have difficulty driving at night

Notice colours appearing less vibrant

Frequently change your eyeglasses but still experience blurry vision

Early detection is crucial.
Untreated cataracts can lead to permanent vision loss.

In conjunction with our 20th anniversary, we are grateful to have our Ophthalmologists join us in providing a free cataract surgery programme, continuing our mission of serving the community.

If you’re aged 40 or above and experiencing vision issues, don’t wait, take the first step toward clearer vision today.
